Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral and was extensively used for approximately 150 years.  It was versatile, plentiful and ideal as a fireproofing, reinforcing and insulation material, however it is also a deadly killer.  Asbestos is a category 1 carcinogen and represents an unacceptable level of health risk.

Asbestos use has decreased year on year since the early 1980’s but was not completely banned until 2003. It can therefore be present in any building constructed or refurbished between the 1950’s and 1992.  White asbestos continued to be used until its ban in 2003.  It is estimated that about half a million domestic premises contain some form of asbestos.

Asbestos should only be removed by relevantly qualified and licensed persons so as to minimize risk to others.  As from July 1, 2006 new laws are being enforced to protect people from being exposed to asbestos fibres.  A great deal of training/licensing is undertaken to ensure the safe removal and to limit exposure and you should only use licensed personnel to undertake this work.

M.A.W. Building & Renovations can safely remove and dispose of all bonded asbestos materials.  This is carried out in accordance to current Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
